Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

  • How To Determine If A Replacement Axle Will Fit My 2022 Forest River R-Pod 202
To confirm if the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with 4" Drop E-Z Lube Spindles # 8327812 will work with your 2022 Forest River R-Pod 202 or not, you're also going to need to verify that your spring seat-to-spring seat measurement is 74". It also wouldn't hurt to measure the hub-face-to-hub-face as well, to ensure that your axle is 89" long. Additionally, this axle has a 4" drop, but if you didn't need a drop axle, then you could also use the: -Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles...

  • Replacement Axle, Hubs, and Brakes for a ShorLandr Dual Axle Trailer
Hey Dave, thanks for all the information. Sounds like you're really in a box here. You're going to have to move the spring seats regardless if you replace the axle because none of ours are in the same 70" position. To get more clearance though for a taller tire, I am curious are your axles currently mounted below your springs or above them? If you replaced your axles with two of the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e38GR and mounted them below your springs you would...

  • How To Determine Correct Replacement Idler Hub And Bearings On A Used Lowe Boat Trailer
Hey John, Unfortunately I was not able to find any information regarding the exact bearings used on that axle based off of those numbers you got off of the axle tag. In order for me to find the right replacement/spare hub for you, you will have to remove a hub and either measure the spindle or take the bearings out to get the bearing numbers. I have attached a photo that shows how to measure your spindle to get the right size bearings. There are a few different 5 bolt lug patterns as...

  • Determining Axle Capacity for 2004 Snowbear Trailer for Replacement Hub
Hey David, from here we don't have a way to determine what hub you'd need. If you could somehow figure out the axle capacity that would be all that we'd need. I know the trailer is far enough away that it makes it difficult to easily get that info but if there's someone nearby who could check if you knew the trailer model you could check with Snowbear and they would definitely be able to get you that info.

  • What Axle Is Compatible WIth The 5 on 5-1/2" Hubs AKIHUB-555-35-EZ-K?
Hello Jason, thanks for reaching out. The 5 on 5-1/2" hubs are pretty uncommon these days, so I am not surprised to hear that there are no complete axles that come with them. The Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-555-35-EZ-K you mentioned will fit any standard 3,500 lb axle. The hub uses the # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) inner bearing and # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) outer bearing which is standard for the 3,500 lb axles. • Replacement Axle, Springs, Wet Bolts, Equalizers, and Brakes for Tandem Axle Trailer
I'll start by covering the axle since this information is important for other components as well. The first thing you want to do is identify your axle capacity. Since this is a tandem axle trailer and you're thinking 7,000 lb capacity you probably have tandem 3,500 lb axles. Take a look and see if you have the capacity listed on axle tags. If not, you can measure the diameter of the axle. A typical 3,500 lb axle has a 2-3/8" diameter. If you find that you have a 3,500 lb axle, and your...

  • How to Find Replacement Axle for Hurricane HUR 2178 Boat Trailer
Finding a replacement axle will require measuring your current axle. Specifically, the hub face to hub face measurement. I would say based on the GVWR it is a 3,500 lb axle. It could possibly be a 3,000 lb axle depending on what they figured for tongue weight, but that would be obsolete so you're looking at 3,500 lbs either way. We only have two length options for 3,500 lb axles so I'll list them below. If you switch from a 3k axle you will also need new hubs. You can choose from the following:...

  • Are There Hubs for a Straight Spindle with 1-1/4" or 1-3/8" Diameter
I'd love to help but we don't have any hubs for this axle as it's appears very odd and uncommon. The best option we can offer is a new axle. In order to choose the correct replacement axle for a trailer you'll first want to start with the weight capacity. The weight capacity can be found on the axle tag in the center of the beam. Then, you'll need to measure the hub face (center of hub face to center of hub face) and spring center (center of spring center to center of spring center)....

  • Is There a Trailer Hub for An Axle with 1-3/8" Inner and Outer Bearing
The L68149 bearing measures 1.378" and is commonly used on the inner bearing slot. The outer bearing is then usually a L44649 which measures 1.063". Unfortunately, we don't have any hubs which use two L68149 (1.378") bearings.
